HEADACHES - MIGRAINES

Tension headaches are very common in people who spend a lot of time sitting, especially those who work in front of computers.

The pain often starts in the neck or base of the skull and travels around to the front of the head. Many people who report getting tension headaches say they can feel them coming on.

These headaches can be the result of previous trauma to the neck, such as whiplash, or from repetitive poor posture.

Either way, headaches can often have a close relationship to the cervical spine (neck). Which is where the term, cervicogenic headaches comes from.

Common factors contributing to headaches:

  • Poor posture (forward head and shoulders)

  • Prolonged sitting positions

  • Dehydration

  • Physical trauma or accidents

  • Daily stress and muscular fatigue

  • Mechanical tension in the cervical spine

What is the primary cause?

With any persistent headache, it is crucial to understand what we are dealing with. We find that the most common cause of tension headaches is mechanical in nature.

This means the joints of the cervical spine are not moving as freely as they are designed to, creating dysfunction, muscular strain, and tension in the structures around the neck and skull.

How chiropractic care can help with headaches:

At Chiropractic Centre Nicolas FREY DC, we take a holistic approach when dealing with headaches. We look at your entire musculoskeletal system, not just where it hurts, ensuring we perform a comprehensive and thorough evaluation.

Our process involves an initial consultation to determine how we can best support you. If we find that your needs lie outside our scope, we will be sure to direct you to the right professional. If we can help you, we will proceed with a detailed examination.

During this assessment, we perform a range of structural, functional, and musculoskeletal tests to find the exact source of your tension. If necessary for your case, we may also recommend spinal X-rays.

From these findings, we create a personalised care plan designed to help you recover naturally.

Our approach combines precise spinal adjustments, joint mobility work, soft tissue techniques, and targeted rehabilitation exercises or stretches. We also address key lifestyle factors, such as stress management and ergonomics, to provide you with a comprehensive and long-lasting solution.
